A study of medical students’ awareness about virtual autopsy in Malaysia: Case study in the international medical school (IMS)

Autopsy or Postmortem examination is an important responsibility of the forensic Pathologist that is essential for the complete and satisfactory investigation of the deaths. Virtual autopsy introduces a new era in postmortem examination by utilization the recent imaging systems producing high-quality three-dimensional images in multiple plains avoiding mutilation of the human body. It was found that virtual autopsies were not practiced well in Malaysia. The awareness of virtual autopsy has less attention in Malaysia. This research was carried out to identify the awareness level of MSU medical students about Virtual Autopsy in Malaysia. The data were collected through questionnaires which include general data of the participants and their knowledge regarding virtual autopsy. These questionnaires were distributed to 320 medical students. Results showed that most of the medical students are not aware of the virtual autopsy in Malaysia. But, when they got to know the concept, most of them accepted the benefits and importance of virtual autopsy application in Malaysia. It is concluded that virtual Autopsy should be given more attention in Malaysia.
