Living body weight prediction from handprint anthropometry among adult minang ethnic of Indonesia

Abstract

Exploring the usability of handprint in the populations as predictors of body weight is the current trend among anthropological researchers. Handprints and fingerprints are the most valuable evidence that can be found at the crime scene. The current research was conducted relating body weight and handprint on the adult Minang ethnic of Indonesia. The present work is to develop formulae to predict the body weight from the handprint measurements in this study population. Examination of handprint impressions is vitally important for forensic application. No study was conducted on Minang population so far. This study involved 100 males and 100 females with age ranging from 18 years to 60 years old. The inclusive and exclusive criteria were followed. Body weight and handprint dimensions were taken and the data were analysed by using SPSS version 25 and developed formulae to predict body weight from handprint anthropometry.
