Abstract

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is recognized and practiced worldwide. It is used in various health care centers to treat various ailments. Medical practitioners work with the TCM practitioners in hospital setups.

A cross-sectional study was conducted by using survey method to collect data from medical students in different years from a private university in Malaysia. A standardized questionnaire consisting of ten items was used to assess the positive and negative perceptions with five-point Likert scale.

A statistically significant difference in the negative perception about the TCM between the male and female medical students was observed with females have less negative perception when compared to males. Chinese medical students had statistically significant negative perception compared to Malay and Indian medical students.

TCM exists as a part of the healthcare system. in Malaysia. Yet the negative perception about the TCM persists among the medical students indicating the need for creating awareness about TCM.
