Morbidity and mortality from road traffic accident in Delhi-NCR Region: A comprehensive study

Abstract

Road traffic accidents are a major global public health problem, but still neglected in developing nations requiring determined efforts for effective and sustainable prevention. The aim of the present study is to find out the causes of death and injuries involved in the road traffic accidents.This study was conducted upon 200 post-mortem cases of road traffic accident victims over the period of one year.In the present study, out of total 200 cases of road traffic accidents, the male victims comprised of 80% of the road traffic accidents (n=160) while females comprised of 20% of the road traffic accidents (n=40). The most common cause of death in road traffic accidents were due to head and neck injuries (n=115, 57.5%), head and thorax injuries (n=63, 31.5%) and abdominal injuries (n=22, 11%).
