Evaluate the role of inter-observer variations in bite mark analysis.
Impressions of both, maxillary as well as mandibular arches of 10 consenting volunteers were taken and dentition casts were prepared. The bite marks were analysed by three methods (Manual, Computer assisted hand tracing overlay and Computer assisted dentition overlay method) by two independent observers. The results were analysed using SPSS 16 and Kappa Static formula.
Analyzing the observer results, our study revealed that the best method with minimal bias is the computer assisted methods.
We conclude that the computer assisted method is the best method for bite mark analysis.
