Age determination of an individual from the appearance and fusion of the ossification centres is a wellaccepted fact in forensic medicine. Therefore, it is an important feature in personal identification.
This Retrospective cross-sectionalstudy has been carried out to study bone ossification pattern in Western Maharashtra. Elbow & wrist radiographs of 305 individuals reported at tertiary health care centerwere studied for appearance and fusion of ossification centres.
Ageof appearance & fusions observed in this research compared with other studies, which are found largely similar with some variations of 1–2 years which might be attributed to regional variationand also 1–2 year earlier presentation in females.
Stage of fusion as an indicator of age determination was found to be less reliable than complete fusion. In general females shown 1–2 years earlier appearance & fusion of ossification centers with some exceptions.
