Oleander is a garden plant found in compound of houses. Incidents of poisoning from these plants may be due to accidental exposure or deliberatesuicidal ingestion of the toxic parts.
It is an important medicinal plant in Indian folk medicine. It is a potentially lethal plant in many cases of poisoning and number of suicidal cases are prevalent in South Asian countries, especially in India and Sri Lankaetc.
Antibacterial, anthelmintic, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, anti-pyretic, antioxidant, antifungal, anticancer and anti-HIV activity are some important pharmacological actions.
The review is therefore, based on the medicinal and therapeutic uses of Oleander in Ayurveda. The update in treatment of oleander poisoning and medico-legal significance.
A survey of the literature to highlight current updateof poisoning preponderance and the treatment of poisoning resulting from oleander plants.
