Stature estimation is one of the important parameters that helps in establishing the identity of unknown deceased individual. Such identification becomes particularly essential in a scene of crime or in cases of natural disaster. The task becomes morechallenging when the body has skeletonized and or is mutilated. Lengths of limb bones may be considered for stature estimation and various equations/formulas canbe formulated which can then be applied to derive the stature. However, these equations and formulas as calculated byvarious authors are specific for gender, race and age of an individual. In India, due to extensive diversity, there is need to develop formulas that are specific for gender and population subgroup.
The current study focuses on estimation of stature in young north Indian females from measurement of percutaneous femur length.
