Diurnal variation in hanging: - A retrospective study

A cosmic number of studies have gathered evidences indicating cyclical variations in the incidence of suicide throughout time. This retrospective study, data were obtained from cases of suicidal hanging reported to the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, UCMS & GTB Hospital, New Delhi. In our study out of 615 cases, 417(68%) were male and 198(32%) were female. Most of the victims288(46.82%) were irom the age group 21–30 years. Maximum hanging fatalities in males occur during 06:01pm-12:00 midnight followed by 06:01am-12:00 noon while in females’ maximum hanging iatalities occur in between 12:01pm to 06:00pm and 06:01pm to 12:00 midnight. According to the findings, various subpopulations die by hanging at different hours of the day and at different periods of the year.
