With the increasing trend of alcohol consumption and associated crimes, study of alcohol content of various body tissues & fluids has got paramount importance in medicolegal investigations. It has become important further due to production and loss of alcohol in significant and variable quantity in the dead bodies and the samples during their storage in our environmental condition. Some data of production/loss of ethanol from body tissues are available but they are mostly of foreign conditions which cannot be followed as such in India as the external environmental conditions and tissue related changes vary to a large extent and in much different rates.
So, the safer, unadulterated, and relatively sterile available fluid viz urine has been chosen for the study of postmortem production and loss of ethanol in our environmental condition to calculate its concentration at the moment of death.
