Forensic evidence plays an important role in investigation and prosecution of civil proceedings. One of the most reliable form of evidence in many criminal cases is DNA. DNA evidences can be collected from blood, hair, skin, cells and other bodily substances but question arises how long the samples can be preserved and suitable for DNA profiling. In this study, blood samples which were preserved in EDTA vial were taken and DNA was extracted from the samples. Quantity of DNA was observed appropriate for DNA profiling. Quantification was done and Genemapper ID-X Software was used for STRanalysis. It was observed that DNA can be extracted even after 6 years from the blood samples preserved in EDTA vial.
