Innovating teaching-learning methods are necessary for generating interest in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology students. Solving crossword puzzles has been tried as a tool to motivate learning. However, it has been concluded that creating crossword puzzles for the learner is a better tool for enhancing learning.
To assess the effectiveness and feasibility of creating crossword puzzles as a learning tool.
Second-year MBBS students were divided into two batches and were made to create crossword puzzles from the chapters taught. Performance in a test was analyzed for creating and solving groups following each intervention. Perceptions of the faculty (n=50) and participating students (n=129) were recorded and analyzed.
There was statistically significant learning enhancement in the creating groups compared to the solving groups. The students enjoyed the entire exercise and believed this tool should be used in other subjects too. The faculty members felt this is a feasible tool for enhancing student
Results of this study suggest that creating crossword puzzles is a feasible tool for enhancing learning.
