Glass is commonly found as evidence where target involves windowpanes or windshields of automobiles in crimes such as burglary, hit and run, or shooting incidences. Analysis of glass fractures becomes significant in the reconstruction of crime to determine the angle and direction of impact. It may also aid the investigators to ascertain the calibre and type of weapon used in crime. Various parameters such as the number of radial and concentric fractures, diameter and thickness of the mist zone, and diameter of the hole made by the projectile can provide valuable information to the investigator. Glass fracture analysis can prove to be a useful tool to the investigators to distinguish firearm- standard firearm, air rifle or improvised country-made weapon which results in the formation of fractures.
