Abstract

Establishing the identity of an individual while dealing with mutilated or skeletonized dead bodies in medico-legal cases is a very difficult challenge. Assessing stature is an imperative facet of personal identification along with the determination of age, sex, and race (ethnicity) while dealing with medicolegal instances. In the past decades, the literature has indicated that stature also varies due to the climate of a particular area, nutrition, age, and sex. Concerning this, the current study was planned to develop regression formulae for the evaluation of stature from the ulna length and hand Length. A total of 500 adults (250-Male and 250-Female) aged between 2030 were studied from the state of Gujarat. The data were statistically analyzed in SPSS 26.0.0 and the accuracy of data was assessed by stature through the developed regression formulae. It was observed that there was significance in the estimated correlation coefficient of stature with various anthropological parameters in this study. The results of this study unfold that one can significantly appraise the stature of a person through the ulna length and hand length for the Gujarati population. Furthermore, these findings will benefit the area of forensic anthropology and estimating the stature by developing regression formulae for various populations by this method.
