Abstract

Pyrethroids are synthetic derivatives of pyrethrins, naturally extracted from Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium plant. The current study has been designed to detect pyrethroids in 8 different types of cereals and pulses collected from the Delhi NCR region. Samples were subjected to multi-residue pesticide analysis using QuEChERS method followed by Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS). The highest concentration detected for permethrin was 206.8232 ng/ml in Rice (Oryza sativa) while that of deltamethrin was 38.9810 ng/ml in Arhar Dal (Cajanus cajan). As exposure to pyrethroids like permethrin and deltamethrin in the current pesticide-dependent world is unavoidable, GC-MS/MS method can be used as a reliable screening tool.
