Abstract

A toolmark is an impression made by a tool when it comes in contact with a surface with moderate to high degree of force. These marks are distinctive patterns which are bestowed with both class and individual characteristics. When a suspect uses a tool to commit an unscrupulous act, such explicit marks are commonly discernible on one or more artifacts of the crime scene. These marks may then be traced back to the specific tool and ultimately to the owner of that tool. Toolmarks have the potential to place the suspect at the crime scene.
