Pre-menstrual syndrome is defined as recurrent moderate to severe affective, physical and behavioural symptoms that develops during luteal phase and disappear within few days of menstruation. These symptoms affects mental and psychological health of women and increases vulnerability of suicide among them. Material and methods-This observational cross-sectional study was carried out in department of Forensic medicine, Pt. J.N.M Raipur over period of 6 months which includes autopsy findings of females of reproductive age group (15-40 yrs) who committed suicide and a questionnaire for 20 hospitalized patients with history of suicidal attempt during menstrual phase.
Most of the study subjects belong to 26-30 years of age with 40% present with blood in uterine cavity and 20% shows hypertrophied uterus. Most of the female of the study group are married and most common cause of death among them was burns. Out of total 20 hospitalized patients, 35% did suicidal attempt.
It was observed that in the uterine findings of deceased females, blood in uterine cavity indicates menstrual phase and suicide was attempted either during this phase or pre-menstrual phase.
