A retrospective study was conducted on 173 cases of suicides in Manipur that occurred during a period of 6 years from 1993 to 1998. The study shows a gradual decline in suicide rate, the commonest method being hanging. Males dominate and the age-group of 21–30 years was most commonly affected. The incidence was highest among the Hindu Society followed by Christians.
