Abstract

The present paper highlights detection of spermatozoa in 80% of cases where vaginal swabs were collected upto 21 hours of post coital interval (PCI), 53.3% between 25–48 hours of PCI, and 10% between 49–72 hours of PCI. In the group of 0 – 24 hrs PCI, the non-pregnant cases showed the persistence of 78.9%, while in the pregnant cases it was 69.2%. The suitable period for the persistence of sperm inside the vagina was observed in the first 14 days of menstrual interval. The positivity of the spermatozoa presence was maximum in the age group of 26 – 35 yrs (88.2%), which was followed by the age group of 15–25 years (72.7%).
