Abstract

Estimation of time since death from postmortem biochemical changes in synovial fluid is the topic of discussion in the study. Analysis of biochemical changes in synovial fluid obtained between 2.2 to 72 hrs after death from 282 normal subjects revealed a significant correlation between the time since death and sodium/potassium ratio, which was not susceptible to factors like cause of death, gender, age and seasonal variations. Moreover, postmortem interval could be estimated by S – Curve model with S.E. of estimate of log 0.587 hrs.
