Ralstonia pickettii- what nurses need to know??

Abstract

Infusion nursing is a specialty and is focused on the care of patients receiving intravenous (IV) therapy, having an access device in place such as peripheral IV catheter, centrally inserted or PICC line catheters and are used to administer wide variety of medications. Several outbreaks of Ralstonia have been reported in the hospitals till now, and the majority caused by contaminated intravenous fluids and water used for injections. The nurse's responsibilities relies mainly on understanding the basic elements of standard precautions that are specifically aimed at protecting the patient and prevention of infections.
