Demographic transition increased the proportion of elderly in India. Elderly persons experience increased economic dependency for their day to day existence.1 Government of India has provided various welfare services to support the elderly population but the knowledge regarding schemes and policies of elders and it's utilization of these services is questionable.2
1) Assess the level of knowledge on geriatric schemes and policies among senior citizen. 2) Find out the association between knowledge on geriatric schemes and policies of senior citizen with selected socio demographic variables. 3) Develop and distribute an information booklet on geriatric schemes and policies among senior citizens.
A quantitative research approach was adopted to assess the knowledge regarding schemes and policies of old age among senior citizen. The sample consist of 60 senior citizen, selected by simple random sampling technique and data collected using closed ended questionnaire with interview method.
The major findings of this study is majority 45(76.7%) samples have average knowledge regarding schemes and policies of old age and 23.33% of samples (14) have poor knowledge regarding schemes and policies of old age and 1.6% of sample (1) have good knowledge regarding schemes and policies of old age.
The study showed that the majority of population has average knowledge regarding schemes and policies of old age. And there was no significant association between selected demographic variables and knowledge regarding schemes and policies of old age among senior citizens.
