Abstract

The lamp lighting ceremony in nursing symbolizes the transition of nursing students into the professional realm, drawing inspiration from the legacy of Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing. Rooted in deep symbolism, the ceremony incorporates the lighting of a lamp, reminiscent of Nightingale’s iconic role as "the lady with the lamp." This act signifies enlightenment, the removal of ignorance, and a commitment to a lasting wealth of wisdom. As nursing students embark on their professional journey, the ceremony serves as a formal declaration of their entry into the nursing profession, marking the culmination of education and training. Unique to nursing, the ceremony fosters a sense of community, professional identity, and pride among students. It instills inspiration, motivation, and a reflective stance on values, connecting students to the historical roots and traditions of nursing. With a focus on the positive impact nurses can have on patients’ lives, the lamp lighting ceremony becomes a memorable and impactful milestone in the educational and professional journey of nursing students.
