Low birth weight constitutes 30% of live birth which becomes a major health problem for neonatal deaths. KMC adherence is of primary importance for decreasing neonatal deaths. The aim of this study is to provide knowledge regarding KMC among mothers of low birth weight babies.
To assess the knowledge regarding KMC among mothers of low birth weight babies.
Pre – experimental one group pre test post test design was used. Thirty mothers were selected by Convenient sampling technique. The pre-test was administered by structured knowledge questionnaire followed by structured teaching programme. After 7 days, the Post-test was administered by the same structured knowledge questionnaire for evaluating the effectiveness of STP on kangaroo mother care among mothers of low birth weight babies. The questionnaire was categorized the knowledge level such as inadequate knowledge level, Moderate knowledge level, and adequate knowledge level.
The obtained data was analyzed using descriptive, in terms of objectives and hypothesis of the study, inferential statistics and interpreted. The level of significance was set at 0.05 levels.
The finding of the study revealed that there was a marked increase in overall knowledge score of post test than the pre test score which represent the effectiveness of STP (t=3.04; p<0.005).
The study concluded based on findings suggested that STP was effective among mothers of low birth weight babies for improve knowledge regarding kangaroo mother care.
