Case Study on Bronchiectasis Sicca: A Hidden Cause of Hemoptysis

Abstract

Bronchiectasis Sicca or Dry Bronchiectasis is a very rare condition in which there are all the features of bronchiectasis except for the absence of copious amount of sputum which is usually a hall mark of bronchiectasis. I am presenting a case study report of a 45 years old female, admitted in the hospital at Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu. with the complaints of: history of recurrent episodes of dry cough since 4 years, recurrent fever since 6 months, occasional hemoptysis since 6 months and breathlessness on exertion since 6 months. She is a farmer and she don't have history of Tuberculosis or other Chest Infections. There is no family history of any hereditary diseases. A detailed assessment and investigations concluded the diagnosis as Bronchiectasis Sicca. She was treated with Antibiotic therapy, Bronchodilators, Steroids, Nebulization and Chest Physiotherapy. On her discharge from hospital, her general condition was fair. Vital signs are stable and she was educated about the Treatment, Diet counselling, Prevention of Respiratory Infections and follow up.
