Abstract

“Emotional intelligence as a cluster of skills is viewed today as an essential and influential variable that determines life's success. Emotional intelligence broadly referred to the abilities and capabilities, which acknowledge, recognize, understand and channelize as well as regulate emotions in one self and others in our environment” Goleman (2005). The objectives of the study were 1) To assess the level of emotional intelligence among adolescent students in a selected school, Nagpur.2) To determine the association between selected demographic variables and level of emotional intelligence.

non experimental descriptive research design was used to assess the level of emotional intelligence and to find the association between emotional intelligence and selected demographic variables. This study was conducted on 100 adolescent students.

The study shows that 80 (80%) students having high emotional intelligence, 20 (20%) students having moderate emotional intelligence and none of the adolescent students having low emotional intelligence.

the major findings of the study revealed that there was significant association between level of emotional intelligence and selected demographic variables i.e. age and gender at 0.05 level of significance by using chi square test. And the mean score of high emotional intelligence is 134.43 and moderate emotional intelligence is 114.1 and study found that there is high emotional intelligence in female adolescent students as compared to male adolescent students.
