A quantitative non experimental correlational study design was considered based on conceptual framework. Non probability purposive sampling technique was used for collecting 30 samples from female residents of selected community areas in Kottakkal. Structured questionnaire, Body mass index, Waist circumference, Skin fold assessment, Midarm circumference, Checklist, Health risk assessment scale were used to collect data. Data was analyzed and interpreted by using correlational statastics and chi square.
The study findings reveals that 47% of females were included in the BMI category of pre obese, 40% and 10%were in category of obese class I, obese class II respectively. 53% of females were having very high waist circumference, 67% females were having high abdominal circumference, 70% females included in obese category based on midarm circumference measurement and the measurement of triceps skinfold thickness reveals that 67% females were in pre obese category. 40% were having low level of physical activity, 60% of obese female having mild health risk and 37% were having moderate health risk. There is a significant association between prevalence of obesity with selected sociodemographic variable (p value <0.05), The current study shows correlation co-efficient of 0.82 between physical activity and obesity, it means that they are strongly positively correlated.
