Abstract

Surgery is defined as “the branch of medicine dealing with manual and operative procedures for correction of deformities and defects, repair of injuries, and diagnosis and cure of certain diseases”.

A quantitative research approach using one group pretest posttest research design.

60 relatives of patient who undergoing abdominal surgery using Non-Probability Convenient sampling technique in hospital of Mehsana city.

Self- Structured Knowledge Questionnaire.

The pretest knowledge scores respondents mean was 9.96, with standard deviation 3.65 and score range was 4-18. The posttest knowledge scores respondents mean was 13.86, median was 14, mode was 13 with standard deviation 2.77 and score range was 8-19. The statistical paired ‘t’ implies that the difference in the pretest and post-test value was found statistically significant at 5% level (P<0.05) with a paired ‘t’ value of 15.59. the computed Chi-square value for association between level of knowledge of relatives of patient’s regarding postoperative management and their selected demographic variables is found to be statistically significant at 0.05 levels for area of residence and is not found statistically significant for other socio demographic variables. Therefore, the findings partially support the hypothesis H2, inferring that relatives of patient’s level of knowledge regarding postoperative management is significantly associated only with residential area.

The finding of the study revealed that structured teaching programme help in improving knowledge of regarding postoperative management among relatives of patient undergoing abdominal surgeries.
