To achieve desired sustainable resilience through enhancement in overall agri-horti productivity during initial tree growth phase; five Ber root management options (T1: Tree planted in polythene lined pits; T2: Trench in two sidesof tree; T3: Tree planted in bottomless bitumin drums; T4: No tree root management and T5: sole green gram-mustard) were evaluated in green gram-mustard sequence in a randomized block design with four replications on reclaimed Yamuna ravines during 1992 to 1995. Sole green gram and mustard produced significantly higher pooled grain yield and harvest index that was 468.0 and 1675.8 kg ha−1 and 54.0 and 28.6%, respectively. Planting Ber in bottomless bitumin drums produced minimum reduction in pooled grain yield of sole green gram (13.19%)and mustard (5.10%). Planting Ber in bottomless old bitumin drums recorded significantly higher pooled grain yield(406.3 kg ha−1) of green gram than T2 (387.5 kg ha−1) and of mustard (1590.3 kg ha−1) than Ber planted in polythene lined pits (1502.0 kg ha−1) and no tree root management (1529.5 kg ha−1). However, variations in pooled straw yield of green gram were not significant. Planting Ber in bottomless bitumin drums also recorded significantly higher pooled mustard straw yield (kg ha−1) (4036.0) than trees planted in ploythene lined pits (3932.0) and no tree root management (3939.5) but variations were at par with trees planted with trench in two sides (4039.3). No tree root managent produced significantly higher Ber fruit yield (2120kg ha−1) in 1995 followed by Ber trees planted with trench in two sides (1820 kg ha−1). Sole green gram-mustard produced significantly highest net return (Rs 15502 ha−1) than other treatments. Ber planted in bottomless bitumin drums produced significantly higher net returns (Rs 13373 ha−1) than Ber trees planted in polythene lined pits (Rs 11629 ha−1) but variations were at par with Ber trees planted with trench in two sides (Rs 13604 ha−1) and no tree root management (Rs 13609 ha−1).
