Economic evaluation of irrigation through water harvesting tanks in malwa region

The study confirmed that the activity of excavation of farm ponds on the individual farmer's field was extremely useful in turning the mono-cropped area into multi-cropped/crop diversified area and improving the farmer's income and, thus, his/her standard of living. The financial parameters clearly indicate that the water harvesting tanks have tremendous potential in improving the income level of the farmers by turning the mono-cropped areas into multi-cropped areas and helping in stabilizing the farming in the zone. It was also found out based on the economical evaluation of these tanks that the loss of income due to the land encroached by a larger size of tank would be offset by generation of income from crop productivity enhancement and increased water availability. Farm ponds in the individual farmer's fields in the Malwa region will play a vital role in irrigation the crops and improving the productivity of these areas.
