Abstract

School-based curriculum was developed as a strategy for solving the curriculum problems affected by the domination of positivism paradigm in the second half of the twentieth century. The main purpose of this strategy is to increase attention to the students’ needs, professional development of the teachers, attention to the local culture and knowledge and more-than-ever adaption of the curriculum to the ecological features of the environment in which the curriculum is implemented. Compiling and applying this programme entails paying attention to the theoretical principles, viewpoint or viewpoints of support curriculum and its prerequisite necessities. In the present article in addition to reviewing the concept of school-based curriculum, authenticism as the support curriculum viewpoint, the flexible administrative system, strategic thought, political grounds and the professional training of the staff have been considered as the pre-requisite necessities. At the end, in addition to discussion and conclusion, some suggestions have been presented for applying the school-based curriculum strategy.
