A Comparative Quantification of Heavy Metals and Pesticide Residues in Agricultural Water Samples Collected from Iran and India

Abstract

Ten agricultural water samples from ten areas of Taybad district, Khorasan Razavi, Eastern Iran (samples 1–5) as well as Mysore district, Karnataka, Southern India (samples 5–10), were analysed to quantify the likely presence of nine organochlorine pesticide residues. In Iran, two organochlorine pesticide residues including 4,4-DDE and EndosulfanI, were found from the collected samples, while in India, b-HCH and EndosulfanI were the only pesticide residues found in the collected water samples. Six heavy metals including copper, zinc, manganese, lead, cadmium and iron were analysed in the both districts as well. All the pesticide residues and the studied heavy metals detected in the water samples had concentrations below the acceptable limits.
