Abstract

The objective of the study was to find the gender inequality at home and outside on various aspects like education, freedom, activity, nutrition and healthcare and in general. This was a descriptive cross sectional study involving 100 children aged 8–12 years at Pondicherry institute of medical sciences, Puducherry. After obtaining consent from the parents a pre-tested questionnaire was used to collect the information from the children. Out of a total score of 14, the average score was 9.69. This shows that from the attitude of the child there is gender discrimination present in the community against a girl child as perceived by a child. The study showed that in a child’s perspective there was discrimination against the girl child.
