Abstract

This cross sectional exploratory sample survey on working women (N: 35) from urban areas uses a need based ‘Life Style Questionnaire’ (LSQ) comprising of two parts: (a) listing of 32 common ailments; and, (b) 25 statements on frequency and adherence to various life style practices. The respondents were instructed to answer these questions based on their recent experience of the symptomatic occurrence and frequency of the listed ailments vis-à-vis their related life style practices during the past three months. Results indicate a statistically significant mean difference in terms of frequency and magnitude of the common ailments by the respondent working women and also the risky life style behavioral practices indulged by them. These findings are true across all the studied co-variables like respondent age, job type, educational qualifications, family type or size, marital status, etc. The findings invite attention towards the need to plan life style behavior change programs for the affected population of at risk urban working women in the country.
