The relationship between per-capita income and infant mortality: A study of Five Most Industrial States and India

Abstract

High level of income enables people to acquire a high level of education and skill that will bring to fruition the intellectual capability and quality of the individual. Human development measured by the level of per-capita income, life expectancy and literacy, thus, requires a level of income, material requisites of welfare as Marshall would have it, as its basis. Hence, the modern concept of human development is only as elaboration and explicit interpretation of the basic idea of economic welfare of man embedded in Marshall‘s definition of Economics.
