Right to Livelihood – Exclusion of Slum Dwellers in Mysore City

Demographic dominance of urban scene by class I cities in India. It is important to note that continuously increasing class I cities and its population leads to formation of slums. The data provided by the Karnataka Slum Clearance Board, slum population is declining in Mysore city due to intervention of various schemes and programmes. In contrary, slum dwellers lose their livelihood opportunity for displacement/resettlement of slums into to outskirt of the city. This article attempts to explore slum dwellers typology and their deprived from the livelihood opportunity due to displacement/resettlement of slums into outskirt of the city. At present, about 2788 dwelling units were constructed at Sathagalli, Mysore under Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) it is the sub- component of JnNURM for slum dwellers. This research article concludes that any resettlement project has to work it out best location for slum dwellers where they are not loosing livelihood opportunity.
