The need of the hour has emerged to migrate from Surrogated Economic Zone (SEZ) to Special Economic Zone (SEZ). More than a decade, India was implementing the SEZ policy with lot of expected results. Unfortunately, limited success only achieved because, till date India acts as a surrogate mother for the foreign investors in order to gain the net earnings. The need for this review article is to get a successful nomination of new entrants to gear up the performance of SEZ as it is the growth engine for the Indian Economy. Retaining the routine idea of promoting foreign investment, now it is the time to add and enforce the implementation of ‘Make in India’ movement to revamp the Special Economic Zones. In this article, purpose of SEZ policy are analyzed in the introductory chapter, Review of literatures listed in the second chapter, Need of Make in India movement for India are discussed in the third chapter, current status of SEZ in India are depicted in the fourth chapter and the road map of SEZ for 2022 are portrayed in the concluding chapter.
