Abstract

Education helps people in developing intellectual, technical and cognitive skills. Also, it helps one to be more creative and innovative, thus able to perform different tasks within the workforce. In this case, education is a critical factor in ensuring economic growth and development of a nation. This paper sought to explore the impact of education on economic growth by focusing on online education among the GCC countries. GCC is a group of six countries in the Gulf region which are economically dependent on oil and gas resources. In the last few years, the countries have been trying to diversify their economy to shield themselves against uncertainties associated with the global oil market. However, this economic goal has been hampered by the massive skill gaps that exist between the nationals and industry. In this case, the paper suggests that increased investment in online education platforms would ensure more people can access education leading to enhanced productivity, and economic growth.
