Contribution from Division of Agronomy, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi.
Studies on weed control in Bengal gram were undertaken for two seasons'at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi during rabi 1972–73 and 1973–74. Alachlor, nitrofen, prometryne, metoxuron and amiben were compared with different cultural treatments (weedings at different, stages of crop growth). Weed control through cultural methods effectively reduced the crop weed competition. Consequently the grain yield and net returns were more under these treatments. Among herbicidal treatments, prometryne at 0.50 kg a, i./ha proved the best and may be the second best choice to control the weeds on sandy loam soils under Delhi conditions.
