1 Contribiuion of the Weed Research Scheme, Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology, Bhubaneswar.
Studies on low land jute were conducted to assess the relative efficiency of herbicides lie dalapon (2, 2-dichloropropionic acid), propachlor (2-chloro-N-isopropyl acetanilide) and alachlor (2-chloro-2’, 6-diethyl-N-(melhoxy methyl) acetanilide on control of weeds. They were tried at the same dosage rates of 2.0 kg/ha individually as pre-sowing soil applications and also in combination with one hand weeding and were compared with the conventional methods. Amongst all the herbicides tried, propachlor application was found to be the best. Alachlor was next in order. Propachlor and alachlor supplemented with one hand weeding operation 25 days after sowing recorded higher yields over their corresponding single applications and the conventional methods
