Studies on the Rate and Time of Application of Metoxuron for the Control of Wild Oats (Avena Iudoviciana Dur.) in Wheat (Triticum Aestivum)L

Abstract

Metoxuron [7SFM3-chloro-4-methoxyphenyl)-JV, N-dimethyl urea] as pre-emer-gcnce(1.2, 1.6 and 2.0 kg/ha), early post-emergene (0.8 kg/ha) and post-emergence (1.2 and 1.6 kg/ha) gave an effective control of wild oats (Avena Iudoviciana Dur.) in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). On a light texture soil (83–90 per cent sand in top 15 cm soil), it was adequately safe as pre-emergence (2 kg/ha) to the crop. As pre-emerge nee, its application at 1.2 kg/ha appeared inadequate for wild oat control. At 2.0 kg/ha pre-emergence, it gave 80 per cent control of wild oats against 70 per cent in case of triallate. On such light texture soil, metoxuron as pre-emergence was more safe to the crop as compared wi th its post-emergence application as^indicated by 43.4 and 36.1 q/ha grain yield against 37.5 and 39.6 q/ha under its post-emergence application. The unweeded plots (nohoeing) gave 12.3 and 36. 9 q/ha grain yield during 1975–76 and 1976–77, respectively.
