Abstract

Field experiments were conducted at Pantnagar during the year 1978–79 and 1979–80 to study the effect of herbicides on weeds and yield of wheat (Sonalika). Different herbicides at varying levels were used. In 1978–79, grain yield was significantly higher whereas straw yield was not different. Maximum grain yield was obtained from weed free treatments. Among herbicides Isoproturon at 1.0 kg, 1.50 kg ai/ha post emergence and Dosanex at 1.25 kg ai/ha post emergence gave better yield than other herbicides. In 1979–80 grain yield and straw yield were not significant. Highest grain yield was obtained from hand weeding 4 weeks after sowing. Among the herbicides, Tribunil at 1.25 kg ai/ha, Dosanex at 1.25 kg ai/ha, Dosanex at 1.25 kg ai/ha and Isoproturon at 1.00 kg ai/ha applied post emergence gave higher grain yield than other herbicides.
