A field experiment was conducted for three years during rabi 1976–77 to 1978–79 at the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana to study the suppressing effect of various genotypes and possibilities of growing dwarf varieties for easy and early identification of wild oats for rogueing by resorting to skip-row sowing or missing a regular row for provid-ing space for walking. Taller the genotype more it suppressed the the growth of wild oats and lesser it suffered from weed competition. The identification of wild oats was easier in 3-gene dwarf and skip-row sowing (45-15-15-15-15-15-45 cm) helped in complete removal of wild oats. One hoeing plus one rogueing under skip-row sowing yielded on a par with two hand hoeings and chemical weeding treatments. Row missed after every 3 or 4 rows yielded lower than skip-row sowing but was comparable with two hoeing and chemical weeding.
