Abstract

Simazine (2-Chloro-4, 6 - bis (ethyl amino)-s-triazine) though a selective herbicide for corn is known to influence the biochemical systems of young corn plants before it gets detoxified by them. In order to study the biochemical changes, the treated plants were analysed for four different enzyme systems at seven days interval for a period of 28 days. Acid phosphatase, Starch phcsphorylase and Nitrate Reductase were considerably stimulated, the stimulation being very marked in the younger seedlings. Peroxidase activity got a set back by the herbicide treatment.
