A survey of the weed flora of rice (Oryza sativa L.)» maize (Zea mays L.), cotton (Gossypium spp.) and groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) was conducted dur-ing Kharif, 1980 in the districts of Ludhiana, Ferozepur and Faridkot in the Punjab. Twenty four weed species were found infesting rice and of these, Echinochloa crusgalli, Panicum colonum and Cyperus iria were the most common. The predominant weeds infesting maize and cotton were Eleusine asgyptiacum, Eragrostis tenella, Trianthema monogyna and Cyperus rotundus. In maize 23 and in cotton 38 weed species were recorded. In all, fourteen weeds were observed in groundnut and the most common weed in this crop was Eragrostis pilosa.
