Abstract

Weed control efficacy of different herbicides in chickpea has been studied in winter 1979–80, 1980–81 and 1981–82. Fluchloralin at 1.5 kg. pre-plant incorporation and pendimethalin and metribuzin at 1.5 and 0.5 kg/ha respectively applied at pre-emergence minimised the population and dry matter of weeds to a considerable extent, although the other herbicides also proved significantly better over weedy check in this regard.

Application of fluchloralin and pendimethalin each at 1.5 kg/ha, pre-plant incorporation and pre-emergence respectively, resulted in significantly better growth and reproductive characters of chickpea than other treatments. In 1979–80, metribuzin at 0.75 kg/ha also proved identical in this respect. Grain yield and the plant characters contributing it were also found superior in these herbicide treatments which were found statistically at par with hand weeding twice.
