Integrated Weed Managemet in Blackgram¹

Field investigations were conducted for two consecutive kharif seasons in 1982 and 1983 at the Directorate of Pulses Research (ICAR), Kanpur, to determine an efficient weed management practice for blackgram (cv. PS 1) under rainfed conditions. The results revealed that both oxadiazon (0.75 kg/ha) and fkichloralin (1.0 kg/ha) were quite effective in checking weed growth and enhancing blackgram yield (31%) over unweeded check (7.97 q/ha). These herbicides were as efficient as weed-free condition during the first year and giving two hand weedings in both the years.

One hand weeding (30 days after sowing) following the herbicidal treatment had no beneficial effect in both years.
