Abstract

Field experiment was conducted in dry seeded bunded Tice for two monsoon seasons at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. The intensity of annual grass Echinochloa colona during the first and second seasons was 52 and 165 per sq. m. respectively. Application of butachlor 1.0 kg/ha or thiobencarb 1.0 kg/ha or pendime-thalin 0.75 kg/ha alone eight days after sowing or in combination with propanil (2.0 kg/ha) 16 days after sowing was effective in controlling the above weed and recorded lower weed dry matter. Pendimethalin alone applied eight days after sowing resulted in mean grain yield of 4012 kg/ha and was at par with rest of the above treatments. Twelfth day application of these herbicides was not effective and resulted in lower grain yields.
