Abstract

Alachlor (2-chloro- 2′- 6′-diethy-N-methoxy methyl acetanilide), a very promising herbicide for groundnut crop, was found to affect the primary metabolic reactions in young groundnut seedlings. The dosages used were 0,1.0, 2.0 ai.d 4.0 kg'ha. The acti-vities of nitrate reductase, acid phosphatase, starch phosphorylase and peroxidases were studied at weekly intervals starting from 7th day after emergence to 28th day. Though, activity of all the enzvme systems were decreased, the influence on nitrate reductase activity was highly significant.
