Field experiments were conducted during the rabi seasons of 1983–84 and 1984–85 at Rajendra Agricultural University Farm, Pusa (Samastipur), Bihar to test the efficiency of three herbicides, fluchloralin, oxadiazon and pendimethalin. Fluchloralin and oxadiazon applied as pre-plant soil incorporation and post planting at 8 days after transplantation in onion affected weed control similar to that found in hand weeding treatment done twice (20 and 40 DAT). Higher bulb yields and weed control efficiency were achieved when two hand weedings were given and when fluchloralin was applied. In unweeded treatment the yield loss was 40.2%.
